Værftets Madmarked received the "Børsen Gazelle 2022" with the following tribute:
"Although recent years have been characterised by crises, you have managed to think innovatively, create growth and achieve the title Børsen Gazelle 2022.
Your ability to adapt to changing conditions and your very different ways of doing so is something we believe deserves focus.
That's why we want to celebrate and honour you as an inspiration to the rest of Denmark. Because there's a lot we can learn from you, who even in crises run ahead and find new paths to growth."
Gry, huge congratulations to you and your team.
What went through your mind when you opened the letter from Børsen two months ago?
I hadn't even realised it! The card was on my desk when I arrived at work, but I just moved it and got on with the day's tasks. My co-workers were walking around laughing because they had figured out that I hadn't figured it out 😊 So when I realised it, my first thought was "What? How amazing to get an award that is based on results". It's unusual for our industry. We're used to being recognised based on the customer experience and we know we can do that. The next thing that went through my mind was that it will be great to share it with the owners who have stood with us through thick and thin.
What has been the key to getting to this point - despite corona and other challenges - a lot has happened since the opening in May 2017?
My missing brake pad! My 'can-do' attitude has brought us a long way in combination with a group of owners who also say 'can-do'. A group of owners who have allowed us to be creative, who dare to invest, and who kept the focus on opportunities rather than challenges - even during the lockdown. The solid support has meant that in an uncertain future with lockdown and restrictions, I was able to keep all the employees. They were sent home with pay and all came back. At the same time, we chose to use the time to invest in an additional 1,327 square metres, so we now have two halls and have taken a big step towards our ambition of developing the food market into an experience centre.
What are you most proud of?
The community and togetherness. I really love that. And proud that we have succeeded in creating it.
I joined in 2018 and immediately recognised a lot of low-hanging fruit - things that could be done better. Especially the opportunity to change the focus from 'me' to focus on 'we'. This has resulted in a huge change. Today, we look after each other's stalls when we're sick, the bartenders help the stalls, we celebrate birthdays with wine and chocolate, and when we invite to joint parties we have over 70 participants. I'm really, really proud of that. The atmosphere we've managed to create is definitely part of our success - it rubs off on the bottom line and has helped raise the quality so that our guests are now our best ambassadors and embrace new initiatives, regardless of the theme - whether we invite them to Hit with Bingo, Sinatra Syndicate, Karma Parties or Open Speech - they come. They have become part of our community.
I can say without exaggeration that it would have been a huge challenge for us to manage the food market without the help and support of the very competent people we work with at TOC.
